To be an athlete and a model?

By LJ Blog No Comments

When golf and corporate collides ⛳️ 👗 this shoot was from a few years ago with Women’s Professional @daniellesgolf who shows she is not only an amazing athlete but moonlights as a model too ☺️ featuring an LJ classic.

Should I bring back this style? Do you like to see athletes modelling styles? I always find that despite being at other ends of the spectrum in many ways, there seems to be a nice synergy between the two and attracts high profile names to don a dress and walk down the catwalk!

I can host your next event!

By LJ Blog No Comments

A few weeks ago, I hosted a breakfast event as part of W-Collective, a networking group at the luxury furniture space, designFARM Perth.

The purpose was for me to talk about LJChaplin – The Label and a bit about myself, plus showcase where my skillset best resides – public speaking and hosting!

My tip for anyone who breaks out into a cold sweat when thinking of the prospect of talking to an audience, is to involve your guests.

The era of sitting in theatre style rows of chairs listening to endless speeches has passed. I threw the questions back out to my guests and involved Brooke and Franchesca to interact alongside me. Not only did this act to disarm the audience but it instantly made me feel relaxed and able to engage better as the host. Do try it next time you are hosting a corporate event!

Are you organising an event? Are you struggling to find an MC or a host?

Allow me to offer my services as a guest MC or host for your next event. I am engaging, accommodating and understand what is required for an event to be successful.

Please email me direct with details of your event and I would be happy to assist.

My Top 5 Branding Tips

By LJ Blog No Comments

The key to success is consistency.

Much like working out at the gym, the repetition and consistency is what keeps you fit, not the one off visits every so often.

I liken this to what I aim to achieve in my work, building relationships with clients, and stakeholders with my business brand. You need to look, talk and act consistently for the people you serve to begin to trust, rely and believe in what you are selling or servicing. This is a skill I have applied over the years working within dual industries, and below is my Top 5 Tips if you are looking to start or re-vamp your business brand:

1. Create a Style Guide, a ruling document for internal and external stakeholders.

2. Refine your logo to easily adaptable formats.

3. Design a Stationary Kit inclusive of letterhead, email signature and business card design.

4. Create an EDM header and footer for all your external communications.

5. Once you have done all the above, apply this to your website, this may require a complete re-design!

I would love to know your tips and if any of the above resonates with you?!

LJ Partners with Channel Nine

By LJ Blog No Comments

I have recently been commissioned by the Channel Nine style team in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney to design and produce dresses for presenters such as Livinia Nixon (pictured) and Tracy Vo in Perth. These styles are custom pieces that I will be reproducing for my LJ clients. I can also create custom uniform dresses for your team that are stylish, comfortable and practical for your company.

To have a partnership with an established brand such as Channel Nine, allows me to have support and exposure that would normally be unattainable! I am looking forward to working the Style Team, stay tuned for new dresses to be seen on your tv screens soon!

LJ & Friends – We raised over $400k for 3 x Perth charities!

By LJ Blog No Comments

‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much’ – Helen Keller

Making the decision last year to volunteer my time, thoughts and enthusiasm to 10×10 Philanthropy makes me feel so proud! Not only to be able to work with other like-mined people, but to truly utilise my skillset to do something with purpose.

Perth folk are the most generous by raising over $400k on the event night for three deserving charities: Ocean HeroesThe Underground Collaborative and zero2hero

The Victory Lounge Optus Stadium was a wonderful venue to share on the night!

The ‘sharks’ CARMEN BRAIDWOOD, Brooke Arnott and Grant Robson stepped into their roles with ease, and of course the flair factor came in bounds by MC Robbie Figg – thank you to all!

Special thank you to Shaun Collins for allowing me to be involved in bringing this initiative to Perth, and to the rest of the Committee members, thank you for being so inclusive to collaborate with, I look forward to hosting the next one!

Join me in making 2021 the year to give!

By LJ Blog No Comments

Late last year I made the decision to be involved in bringing something new and exciting to Perth, all in the name of philanthropy. I am the joint Marketing Lead for 10×10 Philanthropy – Perth, a live crowdfunding charity, comprised of young professionals, who raise funds for innovative grassroots charities by hosting 100+ guests at inspiring events…think shark tank for NFPs.

We are launching our inaugural event on Wednesday 24 March at Optus Stadium in the Victory Lounge supporting the following charities: Oceans Heroes, The Underground Collaborative and zero2hero.

Giving is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference. The ticket price is $100 which is an all inclusive package of food and beverage plus entertainment. Your ticket doubles as your donation which is tax deductible. On the night you’ll receive charity dollars to the value of your ticket. After hearing the three charity pitches, you get to decide who your donation goes to – it’s all part of the fun of 10×10!

I would love to see you there, LJ xx

LJ & Friends – Dress for Success Volunteer Evening

By LJ Blog No Comments

Last night, on behalf of my clothing brand LJChaplin – The Label along with my giving girlfriends, we supported local charity Dress for Success Perth in sorting, merchandising and pricing donated garments ahead of their sales event this weekend.

Not only did we donate our time, we also made a modest financial contribution to place a female who has fallen on hard times to complete their programme and assist in returning to the workforce.

Rae and the volunteer team on the night were wonderful to work with, made it fun and relaxing whilst providing an opportunity for us to assistance them. I am proud of my friends for being so generous with their time and I am proud of myself for leveraging my brand to do good will for others.

Dress for Success Perth is an affiliate of the global charity that provides work-appropriate attire, mentoring support and career development tools to help empower women in Western Australia  to move forward and achieve self sufficiency through gainful employment. They provide support to women in Western Australia who need our support, not just to look the part for a job interview but to gain the confidence that comes from having the necessary career skills.

The team are needing new clothing racks if you are able to help out or you would like to volunteer, please feel welcome to email me via the Contact Us page.

Hello from Lauren!

By LJ Blog No Comments

Hi! My name is Lauren and this is my first official blog post on behalf of my clothing label – LJ Chaplin.

I thought blogging would be a great way to share bits and pieces about my brand and also for you to get to know me a little better as the designer. Don’t let the word designer fool you though, I love being creative but what I truly love most is the ownership of my brand, I have found my journey thus far truly rewarding as I have curated something from the ground up. I wish I could be as creative like people such as Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier or Vivienne Westwood but what really makes me tick is bringing all the pieces together, a bit like a puzzle.

To get to know me and my brand, here are 5 things you may not know about me:

  1. I am based in Perth, Western Australia and all my designs are 100% made right here in Perth. The fabric is source from Melbourne but everything else is W to the A.
  2. This is not my only job. I’ve actually been working in the Golf Industry (not what you would expect, I know!) for over 10 years in Sales, Marketing and Communications.
  3. I have had no formal training in fashion design. This is true, I have been learning as I go along, and I am fortunate to have a wonderful team of pattern makers that guide me in the right direction.
  4. My favourite designer is Victoria Beckham. Not just because she was my favourite Spice Girl (between Posh and Sporty), I just love that she just started designing what she liked to wear and allowed herself to evolve from there to build her brand empire.
  5. I love wearing work clothes! This is what stemmed my desire for design as I couldn’t always find the perfect ‘work dress’ to take me from the Boardroom to the after 5pm. I always feel my best and ready to tackle any challenges that come my way when I am wearing my LJ dress.

I am looking forward to sharing more about myself, the brand plus my interests outside of fashion, namely work-life, fitness and real estate. If there is anything you would like me to blog about, please do not hesitate to connect, I would love to hear from you!
